Stop 11 – The Beech grove

At Stop 11 we move off the track and into a large area of mature Beech trees.

Once the leaves in the canopy of these trees have emerged in summer, the forest floor becomes almost completely shaded from direct sunlight but surrounded by a verdant hue and becomes a cool, sheltered area to relax.

Epiphytic Polypody ferns can be seen growing on the trunks and branches of the beech trees.

Hard Fern grows from the historic field boundaries under the trees.
