Stop 9 – Structural clearing

This clearing holds Larch, Birch and Scots Pine trees. Larch is notable for being one of the few deciduous conifer trees. The species burst into a fresh coat of beautiful green needle-shaped leaves in spring which turn yellow in autumn and fall in winter.

The brown cones which line the branches are most obvious in winter and early spring.

By standing still and remaining quiet, you could be lucky enough to see a Jay hopping through the trees at this stop.

Further along the path, a small patch of Southern Beech can be seen planted close to the track.
